Further research revealed that the government are even behind this idea, issuing COVID-19 guidance for the charity sector, on how charity and commercial organisations could partner to;

  • provide a service or run a project together
  • have staff seconded or volunteering
  • enter into a commercial partnership to raise funds

The guidance indicates that you should:

  • make sure that associating with a business in this way has your trustees support and is in your charity’s best interests
  • ensure that any activities are aligned with your charity’s purposes
  • assess the benefits and risks
  • carefully consider any potential reputational risk of conflicts of interest

Any charity can enter into a commercial partnership to raise money but they must follow specific rules. Further guidance is available from the Fundraising Regulator.
