Gerry Morrissey at BECTU and Martin Robertson of netXtraBECTU, the Broadcasting Entertainment Cinematograph and Theatre Union, have chosen netXtra to deliver a new highly interactive website aimed at improving the way that they and their 27,000 members communicate. The new site, to be launched later this year, will also allow BECTU branch officials throughout the UK to use dedicated areas on the website to promote and strengthen their local organisation.

The website project, which is partly funded by the Union Modernisation Fund, is now well into a ‘design and build’ phase. The plans will also see the union’s chosen website development company, netXtra, integrating the new site with BECTU’s recently upgraded membership database. This integration will allow BECTU members to benefit from a personalised visiting experience every time they log into the site, offering them specific information of relevance or interest.

The website will also provide members with easier access to BECTU materials and services with additional advice and support pages and a range of Special Interest Groups (SIGs). These SIGs will give members the opportunity to interact with each other via the website and exchange information, advice and opinions on matters relating to the union.

Commenting on the appointment of netXtra to develop the new site, Sharon Elliott, BECTU’s Communications Officer said “Having already approached several of our members and branch representatives for their views on what the new website should provide, we had a clear vision of what we wanted. Consequently, appointing the right website development company was imperative.” Sharon Elliott went on to say “Following a rigorous tendering process netXtra was chosen for their thoroughness and professionalism; their representatives really took the time to understand our requirements. We are now looking forward to working with them over the next few months in the lead up to the site’s launch later this year”.
