Your job and career form a large part of your life and are very important to you. A sizeable portion of your time is spent simply being at work, so we go that extra mile to make sure that all of our staff really enjoy being there. As a happy, productive and creative team we always look to recruit people that fit into our company's culture and share our same values, vision and enthusiasm.
Here are just some of our staff stories - as told by them...
I graduated from University in 2013 with a 2:1 and began looking for a good career opportunity in a very competitive market. A recruitment agent informed me about an opportunity as a web developer at NetXtra. Having agreed to have my C.V. put forward, I was initially invited to undertake a questionnaire and practical test, before attending a face-to-face interview.
...an excellent atmosphere and professional working environment.
Upon entering the office on the day of my interview I was initially struck by how bright, modern and new the office and working environment looked. Talking to some of the staff I was given the impression of an excellent atmosphere and professional working environment. I assume the interview had gone well as I was lucky enough to receive an offer of employment, which I immediately accepted. As the company was a long way from where I lived and went to University I decided to relocate to Bury St. Edmunds to be nearer to the office.
I was fairly nervous upon my first day; I had never worked in an office environment and I wasn’t really sure what to expect. However, having been given my induction by my manager, upon arrival, and then meeting everyone in the company, I found it was incredibly welcoming. Everyone was great in helping me get settled in and used to my new surroundings.
Each day starts with a stand up where we discuss the activities from the previous day, as well as what we are working on that day. It’s also an opportunity for me to raise any issues that are preventing me from getting on with my daily work.
I am currently working on building content managed website projects for a number of large trade associations and charities. My day-to-day work is organised by a project manager, but I also work alongside some great designers, other web developers, programmers and system administrators. Whilst there has been a lot to learn, everything is documented, making it so much easier. What's more, the people in my team are always happy to help.
I have now been at NetXtra for approximately 8 months and I have settled in well to both my work and my new town. I have also been able to pass on some of the tips shown to me, when I first joined the company, to others who have joined since, which has been really rewarding.
All-in-all I am really enjoying working at NetXtra. It's really interesting work, with great clients - not to mention a fantastic group of like-minded people.
Having spent 25 years delivering IT projects for the insurance industry, it was time for a change in my career. Initially, I opted to take 6-month break from work and take my time in deciding what I wanted to do next.
A job advertisement for a Project Manager role at NetXtra caught my interest as, whilst it was still a Project Manager role that would utilise my existing skills and experience, it was different enough to present a new challenge for me, which was an exciting prospect.
I had an initial interview on the hottest day of the year, so trying to stay cool, calm and collected was a challenge in itself, but it must have worked as I was invited back for a second interview the week after, and was then, ultimately offered the job. That was over six months ago.
The biggest change for me is that it would be my first experience of working on the other side of the fence - i.e. at a digital agency. What's more, being a role that delivers solutions to the membership and not-for-profit sectors also made it a refreshing change from my background of delivering to corporate clients. NetXtra's modern offices in Bury St. Edmunds also suited me as I have family ties in the area, and as such this helps with my work-life balance.
Since joining the NetXtra team, the people there have all made me feel very welcome and have really helped me to settle in. Everyone really cares about what they do and has the drive to deliver quality products for our clients. The smart new offices are located within the town centre so there’s a lovely working environment too.
I have now, since, chosen to work 4 days a week, and the company has been really helpful in fitting a good working pattern that suits me. Furthermore, it also allows me to still be a key member of the NetXtra team.
Our client base is really diverse; since my arrival I have already delivered projects for a trade union, a charity and a trade association. Client visits have taken me from the West End of London, to the Yorkshire countryside, so the mix is both refreshing and challenging.
...I'm really excited about what the future holds.
Joining Netxtra has been a great move for me, and looking forward, I'm really excited about what the future holds and, importantly, what new clients I will be working with.
Business Development Manager
Since graduating with a 2:1 in Business & Technology, I’ve primarily worked within the IT sector, starting as a Support Analyst, before moving into Account Management and then eventually on into Business Development. Given my 10 years’ experience and proven background within IT, I was keen for my next career move to be one that not only allowed me to consolidate the experience I had already gained, but to build on it too.
The 12 months leading up to me joining NetXtra were the most challenging of my life so far. This, in turn, led to me re-evaluate a few things and decide what was important for me. For me, this ultimately boiled down to finding the right career-forwarding role, that was also closer to home so that I could properly re-address my work-life balance.
Having already known some of the company’s employees, and heard of their reputation as a forward-thinking digital and online marketing company, NetXtra were top of my job-search list.
Upon learning of an exciting new Business Development opportunity at NetXtra, I was overjoyed to hear, later that week, that they had received my application and were keen to meet me at their new offices in the heart of Bury St Edmunds.
...the entire team here, without exception, are very welcoming and really easy to get on with.
My first interview went very well and, having met the whole NetXtra team at my second interview, I am delighted to say that my new role was confirmed. Looking back, being formally introduced to the NetXtra team was probably the easiest part of the entire interview process as the entire team here, without exception, are very welcoming and really easy to get on with.
On my first day in the office I was pleasantly surprised to see that everything I needed to get started was neatly laid out on my desk. This immediately put me at ease and straightaway made me feel part of the team - and not just another employee.
Six months on, and I’ve been very busy. In addition to being able to generate a good pipeline of new websites and digital projects, I’ve also been fortunate enough to close some really exciting new web projects too. I say fortunate, as I couldn’t have achieved this without the guidance and support of the whole NetXtra team.
Exciting times lie ahead for me and the whole team at NetXtra. With my first web design and development projects now in production, I’m really looking forward to working with everyone involved as we drive towards their successful delivery. Furthermore, what makes my job so interesting is that I never know what exciting and diverse new digital marketing projects lie just around the corner.
